About Northwoods Music Festival

The festival idea was "Hatched" on promoter Scott Johnson's weekly radio show "Home Town Sounds", WWJC Radio 850 AM. Performer Kristy Marie was performing on the show and the conversation- interview evolved into the need for Superior, WI to have a showcase of the area talent. This thought directly matched the model of Scott's radio show, the idea took hold and on July 17th 2010 the first festival was under way. Scott is also the owner of Northwoods Music in Superior and making the connection to the store and radio show was an easy fit.

"My initial idea was to just survive the day, but by the end of the event I could visualize a festival that could grow into a true iconic event for the city. I could see vendor's tents everywhere, food , art, and music. There was no way that this was going to be a one- time event, but rather something that I can nurture and grow for our area's performing artist. Being that the Festival wears the brand name of my personal business, I will stop at nothing to make this a successful enterprise."

The festival has been generously supported by our local business sponsors. Without their continued support the event would not have become the success that it is today.

Musicians

The format for the festival was to provide a large venue showcase for the Duluth-Superior performing artist. In order to make that concept evolve the festival design includes up and coming national touring artist as headline performers. With that idea in mind you put everyone on a fantastic stage on the shoreline of Lake Superior….and presto…music festival. The event features a variety of music, with a focus on the independent singer-songwriter.

Crafts / Vendors

The grounds will be covered by local and regional arts and craft artisans as well as food and beverage vendors. This will be the first year of the "Culver's Classic Car Show". Awards will be presented by "People's Choice", so don't forget to vote!

Community

The Twin Ports boasts a wealth of talented performing artist. The mission of our festival is to show case our local talent along-side national touring performers. Our event is generously supported by our business community. The result is an amazing day of sun, shopping and music!
